Rewriting the script.
I am all in for rewriting the rules of the game. Not just the professional one. The bigger one. The strange, beautiful game of being a spark of consciousness walking around in a human body, trying to make sense of it all.
Following rules has never been my strong suit. Hand me a protocol or neatly written instructions and my brain immediately starts scanning for loopholes, exceptions, alternative routes. That's simply how I'm wired. And it stronger than me, stronger than my urge to be the nice girl.
So no, I was never exactly perfect employee material. And honestly, I don't think most of us are, at least not in the way we're doing it now. We just learned to behave that way.
The funny thing is, I believe every single one of us gets to rewrite their own playbook. You can question rules and still be kind. You can do things differently and still keep yourself and the people around you safe. Boundaries still matter. Responsibility still matters.
I can already hear the counterarguments forming. "But rules are necessary."
Of course they are. Traffic lights are a good idea. Basic agreements keep society running. I get that.
But somewhere along the way, many rules stopped being about safety or fairness and became about control. About keeping systems intact rather than the people inside them. Rules that felt illogical. Unhealthy. Unjust. Way too abstract for natural beings like ourselves. And living by them had its price. We became a little too alike. Too uniform.
Society isn't particularly fond of people who question the script, so I understand how daunting it can feel to rewrite your own. Believe me, been there, done that.
And when you stop pre-censoring yourself to fit into the professional framework and start being clear about who you really are, something shifts. Clarity isn't dangerous. It's magnetic. It attracts opportunities, ideas, collaborations and people that actually fit you. Your people. Your crowd.
And suddenly the game changes. Work becomes more creative. Choices become more aligned. Doors open that you didn't even know existed.
This is where my work lies. Zooming out of what is considered normal. Not trying to fit people into systems, but discovering what environment actually suits them. Rewriting the game, one human being at a time.
This is what it feels like when inner fire ignites again. When joy, inspiration and freedom start running loose inside you. You can feel something bubbling, can't you?
If this made you uncomfortable and curious at the same time, we should probably talk.
Love, Annemarijn
